Establishment

Since its establishment in 1887, the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Charity Foundation has all along been committed to its philosophy of "Caring with Compassionate Love" by providing quality holistic medical and nursing services to the people of Hong Kong.

Entering the new millennium, the World Health Organization expressly advocates "Holistic Health" as a main objective of the century. "Holistic Health" refers to the balanced and complete development in the body, mind, social and spiritual aspects. The main objectives of the Nethersole Institute of Continuing Holistic Health Education (NICHE) are to continue the advocacy of our spirit of "Caring with Compassionate Love", to arouse the awareness of general public on holistic health in physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects by providing necessary assistance to medical and nursing departments, and to actualize the mission of holistic medical and nursing care.

Objective

To develop and to promulgate Holistic Health and Care culture, and to promote the Nethersole spirit of Compassionate Care.

Directions

The two major areas for development are Research and Education. Through research, we aim to develop the philosophical foundation of holistic health with the characteristics of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Charity Foundation. And through research to design the spiritual assessment tool, which enables the front line health care workers to assess more effectively the total needs of the patients. Through education, we aim to build up the culture of holistic health. The main target groups include the student nurses of the Nethersole School of Nursing of the CUHK, the health care workers in the hospital and from Mainland China.

Other duties

Publication

Promote holistic health education through publication. With the hospital bulletin, we aim to enhance the holistic health and care philosophy of the readers. With the publication of hospital stories, we express the compassionate care in a soft and relaxing way.

Collaboration

To build up partners through collaboration, which can broaden the network of NICHE and to enrich the content of education. We have built relationship with different parties.
